At Fore Women, we believe advocacy is most powerful when it is rooted in the leadership and lived experiences of the people most impacted by inequity. Community members are not simply participants in our advocacy work. They are co-creators of the change they want to see.
Through civic engagement, coalition building, hands-on advocacy training, and opportunities to share their stories, we bring women, families, and allies together to learn, organize, and advocate for a more equitable future.
One way we put this approach into action is through our annual In-District Visits. These visits give Fore Women staff, advocates, and program participants the opportunity to meet directly with elected officials in their local offices, build relationships, and ensure that community priorities remain part of the conversation where policy decisions are being made.
Bringing Community Voices to Local Offices
From July 13–23, Fore Women staff, advocates, and program participants met with representatives from eight state elected officials’ offices across Los Angeles County. Together, advocates shared their experiences and discussed policies that can help women and families build greater economic security.
During these meetings, Fore Women highlighted three key priorities:
- Expanding access to direct cash assistance for low-income women in Los Angeles
- Advancing equitable policies that support women both in the workplace and at home
- Investing in career readiness and pathways to economic opportunity
These conversations are about more than sharing a list of policy priorities. They are an opportunity to build relationships with legislators, bring community perspectives directly into policymaking, and help elected officials better understand how policies affect the women and families they represent.
Advocacy is strongest when the people closest to an issue have a voice in shaping its solution. By creating opportunities for community members to engage directly with policymakers, Fore Women helps equip advocates with the tools, relationships, and confidence to shape policy and create lasting change.
