Overview

The Health Equity Guaranteed Income Program is designed to support working female heads of household, who receive care from MLK Community Healthcare or Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, who have diabetes, and who earn at or below 80% of the Area Median Income for Metro Los Angeles, based on household size.

By specifically targeting working women with diabetes who are household heads, this program will establish a framework for future policies to incorporate Guaranteed Income as an essential component of treating chronic illnesses within low-income families.

Program Goals
  • Minimize the substantial economic challenges associated with managing diabetes for pilot participants.
  • Enhance fairness in social, economic, and health outcomes within a racially diverse, lower-income group of working mothers.
  • Broaden the research scope regarding the influence of GI, encompassing chronic illnesses within marginalized communities. This approach aims to isolate and understand the direct contribution of income to health outcomes.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  • Receive healthcare for the treatment of Type 1 or Type 2 Diabetes at either Cedars-Sinai Medical Center OR MLK Community Medical Group with a recent A1C reading of between 7.5-9.5%
  • Must be a female Head of Household with at least one dependent living in the household
  • Must be between the ages of 25-63
  • Must be employed and earn at or below 80% of the Area Median Income for Metro Los Angeles, based on household size
